Bereavement

Bereavement counseling provide individual anbd group support to those struggling with the notion of the death of themselves or a close loved one. We are trained to work with the complex emotions related to death, dying, grief, and bereavement. As end-of-life counselors, we work not only with the families of patients who are facing an end-of-life diagnosis, but also those who are in pain due to a chronic or terminal illness. See the Bereavement Program tab for additional information and services.

Trauma and PTSD

With EMDR therapy we can help clients process painful experiences faster than many other types of therapies. This approach allows the brain to heal itself by allowing the distressing memories to be processed and inform instead of cause further distress.

Anxiety Treatment

Addressing anxiety symptoms helps clients start moving towards their ideal life with less stress and feeling calmer. We help cultivate a new mindset that is essential in coping and dealing with stress and lower overall anxiety in life. We help clients transition from a constant state of worry to feeling energized and more confident.

Provider Burnout

The adage, "you are not a good doctor or nurse unless you sacrifice yourself for the cause," may be familiar to many in the medical or helping professions. Dr. Smith is especially suited to help these professionals seek greater balance by recalling and rekindling the vision that was the source of their helping journey. Helping professionals could include physicians, nurses, law enforcement, fire and EMS professionals.

OCD and Phobias

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by repetitive behaviors performed in response to recurrent impulses or obsessions. The obsessions and compulsions cause anxiety or stress. Similarly, phobias cause intense and extreme fear of an object or situation, which may include public spaces, vomiting, driving, flying, insects, injections, blood, and more. Individuals with phobias will go to great lengths to avoid the distress associated with feared stimuli. Both conditions are addressed by using Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with the aim of potentially breaking the link with avoidance behaviors or compulsions.

Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a noninvasive, mind-body technique that aids in helping clients to control the body’s functions more effectively. Specific areas include heart rate, patterns of breathing, and muscle response. During a biofeedback session, clients are connected to electrical pads that help to gain information about the body. When a person experiences stress or pain body, the body changes in response. For example, in response to stress, the heart rate might increase, breathing becomes faster, or muscles tense up. Biofeedback helps clients better understand the body’s response and make slight changes such as using muscle relaxation techniques to reduce tension. Biofeedback can help clients gain the skills to practice to find new ways to control the body. This can in turn aid in improving health problems or make daily activities easier to manage.

Men's Issues

Men’s issues can refer to a number of concerns that may affect mental or physical health in men and that may cause them to seek therapy. Generally men report the same types of concerns that might lead anyone to seek therapy, such as depression, stress, anxiety, relationship concerns, career, or parenting issues. Issues related to masculinity, or perhaps toxic masculinity, are also common issues that are addressed with men.

Pornography Addiction

Pornography addiction is challenging to treat because accessibility, affordability, and anonymity which make it easy for users to consume its content compulsively. As time spent and frequency slowly increase, it may be years until a loved one or the individual realizes there is a problem. Treatments include therapy, behavior modification, support groups, and holistic approaches that are tailored to each client's need.

Infidelity Recovery

Recovering from infidelity can be one of the most painful and challenging times in a marriage or relationship. This period may include numerous mixed feelings and uncertainty. Central is the question of whether the relatioship has the strength to survive the intense emotions that commonly appear when trust has been broken. Infedelity recovery involves partners engagement in topics such as seeking to rebuild trust, take responsibility for their actions, resolve conflict, or seeking to forgive or ask for forgiveness.
